'Yes, it’s a vinyl.
The original plan was to issue an Exodus Sexus cassette, but when we received the first Blason version we were taken back to the day the LFO vs F.U.S.E. 12” was released.
We know it is totally unreasonable, but we decided to issue it as a vinyl, in reference to QUICK 1.
That record came out one year after LFO pretended to crash guitars on the cover of the NME, and one year before they asked Spiritualized for a remix.
Joseph and I were back then indie kids with an interest in techno.
In any music actually: free jazz, concrete, disco, you name it.
The divide pictured in the staged NME cover was funny, but itchy as well: why take side? Why would we have to choose between two music we love?
The magnitude of the impact of that record on our life has yet to be measured.
It's a whole different beast.
It's hard to describe. For a start, it is slow; which was very courageous at a time when Plaid classics got casually killed with “What is this record good for? It does nothing on the dancefloor.” reviews.
The closest you can get is to picture a nine minute one chord acid version of “Neon lights” that ends up in the kind of reverb you hear at the end of a shoegaze concert. It feels like a live session recording.
The beats seem slightly out of synch, not funky at first, but as the song progresses, they prove to be very effective and sexy.
The message clearly was “we so-called techno champions don’t care about any of your club rules and release this track because it’s fabulous. Personal note to Joseph and Michel: you can listen to any music you like and let the purists grumble in their bloody churches. We are actually considering asking Jason Pierce to remix us.”.
And that was just the first impression we got from listening to it in the record shop.
The Blason mixes are also hard to describe, to cut it short: it’s a whole different beast, and we release it because it’s fabulous.'
