師匠のシェーンベルクの影響をもろに受けた'36年の「Two Pieces For Piano」。
インド哲学の研究を始め、音楽の目的は「自然の働きを模倣すること」であり、「心を冷静にして静め、それによって神の影響を受けやすくすること」であると信じるようになったケージ。そういうことが根底にあるのが'46年の同じ題名の「Two Pieces For Piano」。
サティの「La Balançoire」をモデルにした'89年の「Swinging」など。
